Detour Protein Bars Review
Detour protein bars come in four different sizes; 43 gram, 45 gram, 85 gram, and a 90 gram bar. The caloric and nutrient content of the bars increase with size. The 43 gram bars have 180 calories and pack 15 grams of whey protein into it. The 45 gram bar has only 10 more calories, with no extra protein. The 85 gram bar jumps up to 350 calories but packs 30 grams of protein. And, the 90 gram bar jumps a little to 380 calories, maintaining the 30 grams of protein. The carbohydrate content varies slightly by flavor, and they do offer low sugar brands that cut the sugar content in half for many of the bars.
For the real hard core bodybuilder, who is used to gritty protein shakes and protein bars that taste like shoe leather, this bar would not be an attractive option. The 30 grams of protein in the 85 gram bar is a lot to pack in a bar. Surprisingly, this extra protein does not detract from the taste or consistency. The bar may not taste quite like a Snickers or Milky Way, but it does surpass most other protein bar choices. The wide array of flavors, ranging from caramel peanut to peanut butter and jelly, ensures that most people will be able to find a bar that suits their taste.
Although protein bars should not be judged solely on taste, it is a major factor in being able to consistently use a bar for protein supplementation. Detour does provide a good supply of protein with an equal amount of carbohydrates and moderate fat. The low sugar options provide a little less sugar, which is helpful for the dieter.
